For God so love the world, that he gave His only son. That whosoever believe in him shall have ETERNAL LIFE (john 3:16).
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is ETERNAL LIFE through Christ Jesus (Romans 6:23)
What is eternal life?
Eternal life traditionally refers to continued life after death, as outlined in Christian eschatology. The Apostles’ Creed testifies: “I believe God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting.” In this view, eternal life commences after the second coming of Jesus and the resurrection of the dead.
By definition and the biblical verses, eternal life is a gift that is gotten only through Jesus Christ. But in as much as its a free gift from God, you have to earn it… to be worthy. Consider this condition:
1. It is found exclusively in Jesus: 1 John 5.11 And this is the testimony, that God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
2. It is received by believing in Jesus: John 3.14-16 And das Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
This is exactly what he does in John chapter 6 when he speaks of giving his body and blood to those who hunger and thirst. The point here is that eternal life is knowing God (Jn. 17.3) through Jesus Christ. This satisfies the hungry thirsty soul forever!
You might say, “Eternal life is living forever.” there’s more to it. “Well then, eternal life must be living forever in heaven instead of hell.” That’s not it either. No one ceases to exist when they die. Everyone lives forever. The difference is HEAVEN or HELL.
John 3:36 says, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
”The wrath of God abideth on him” eternal condemnation, suffering and torment awaits in the blazing fire for a sinner that has rejected Christ and His word, as opposed to eternal life that’s awaits a believer and a worker of faith.
The question is where do you want to spend you eternity?
