Why Should We Keep The Rosary Under The Pillow?

Why Should We Keep The Rosary Under The Pillow?

Keep a Rosary, even of the little ones, under the pillow. Since I took that habit, I solve problems more easily, and it is a good method for those who have insomnia, they will see that they wake up with the Rosary in their hands and have had a good rest!

Meaningful actions gain more strength when their origin is known.

A beautiful story ….

Why do not you know the history of the Holy Rosary?
I always asked myself: Who would have thought of repeating the Beads of Mary so many times? What’s the point? Now it is understood and each time they pray it, each Hail Mary is a precious rose for the Virgin. I am sure we all know this beautiful prayer that is the Holy Rosary.

A legend tells that a Lego Brother (who was not a priest) of the Order of the Dominicans, could not read or write, so he could not read the Psalms, as was the custom in the convents of the time.

Then, when he finished his work at night (he was the doorman, the sweeper, the gardener, etc …) he went to the convent chapel and knelt in front of the image of the Virgin Mary, and recited 150 Hail Marys ( the number of the psalms), then he retired to his cell to sleep.

In the morning, at dawn, he got up before all his brothers and went to the chapel to repeat his habit of greeting the Virgin.

Brother Superior noticed that every day, when he arrived at the chapel to celebrate morning prayers with all the monks, there was an exquisite smell of freshly cut roses and he became curious, so he asked everyone who was in charge of adorn the altar of the Virgin so beautifully, to which the answer was that none did, and the rose bushes in the garden were not missing their flowers.

The lay brother became seriously ill; the other monks noticed that the altar of the Virgin did not have the usual roses, and they deduced that it was the Brother who put the roses. But how?

Nobody had ever seen him leave the convent, nor did they know that he bought the beautiful roses.

One morning he was surprised that he had risen, but they could not find him anywhere.

At last, they met in the chapel, and each monk who entered was amazed, for the lay brother was kneeling in front of the image of the Virgin, ecstatically reciting his Hail Marys, and each one that addressed the Lady, a rose appeared in the vases

Thus at the end of his 150 greetings, he fell dead at the feet of the Virgin.

Over the years, Santo Domingo de Guzmán, (it is said that by revelation of the Blessed Virgin); He divided the 150 Hail Marys into three groups of 50, and associated them with the meditation of the Bible: The Joyful Mysteries, the Sorrowful Mysteries and the Glorious Mysteries, to which Blessed Pope John Paul II added the Luminous Mysteries.

The Tremendous Power of the Holy Rosary

The Tremendous Power of the Holy Rosary

After reading this article, you will find more reasons to pray the Rosary always.

The Reverend Gabriele Amorth, SSP (1 May 1925 – 16 September 2016) was an Italian Roman Catholic Priest and an exorcist of the Diocese of Rome who performed tens of thousands of exorcisms over his half a dozen plus decades as a Catholic Priest. As the appointed exorcist for the diocese of Rome, Father Amorth was the Vatican’s Exorcist in Chief

He expresses – “One day a colleague of mine heard the devil say
during an exorcism: “Every Hail Mary is like a blow on my head. If Christians knew how powerful the Rosary was, it would be my end.”
The secret that makes this prayer so powerful is that the Rosary is both prayer and meditation. It is addressed to the Father, to the Blessed Virgin, and to the Holy Trinity, and is a meditation centered on Christ”.
Fr Gabriele continues:

“Kindly enunciate each word of the Rosary clearly and distinctly. Do not trample on the heels of the words of anyone with your words. Do not speak over the leader if you are following or the respondent if you are leading the Rosary. Recall that they also are having a conversation with Mary Our Mother and it is rude to talk when someone else is speaking.

In the case of the public Rosary, there are only two people speaking: the Leader and the respondents. Each is speaking to the Blessed Mother and listening clearly to her response within their hearts as they ponder on
the scene before them in their consideration of the mystery being spoken of and Interpreted and converted into their lives. Spread this powerful prayer of exorcism, the Rosary, which contains the Our Father, the perfect prayer, prayed five times in the recitation of each set of the Rosary’s Mysteries backed up by the powerful prayers of Our Mother who intercedes with us as we pray.

A visionary once said “When you pray Holy Mary Mother of God, pray for us sinners now…, the Blessed Mother comes immediately to your side to pray with you. And she does not come aloneShe brings angels with her. And not just one or two, for she is the Queen of Angels, so choirs of angels come with her. And she and Jesus are joined at the heart and cannot be separated so she brings Jesus with her. And Jesus cannot be separated from the Trinity so He brings the Father and the Holy Spirit with Him. And where the Holy Trinity is, all of creation is, and you are surrounded by such beauty and light as you cannot fathom in this life. Your Mother comes as Our Lady of Grace
with her hands outstretched. Rays of light emit from her hands piercing your body, healing you and filling you with graces. This is your inheritance which was poured out from the heart of Jesus on the Cross, when the centurion pierced His Heart with the spear, into the only pure vessel ready to receive such graces at that time, your Mother.

Now as you recite the Rosary, or even just recite one Hail Mary, you receive your portion of these graces. He also said at this time, “Anyone who goes to Mary and prays the Rosary cannot be touched by Satan. No wonder, anyone who prays the Rosary from the heart is so blessed and protected and tremendous in their prayers for others?

Finding New Meaning In The Rosary

Finding New Meaning In The Rosary

It’s time to give the rosary a second chance by pondering why we decide not to pray it, and then reconsider the place of it in our spiritual lives.

Why don’t I pray the rosary?

For us to give the rosary a second chance in our spiritual life, we must first identify the reasons why we don’t pray it.

Maybe you don’t pray the rosary because you have never learned how to pray it. What do I do on what bead? What about these mysteries? There are a lot of guides available on how to pray the rosary. One I would recommend is by Fr. Donald H. Calloway, MIC, aptly titled How to Pray the Rosary (Marian Press, 2016).

Another common objection might be the repetitive nature of the rosary. The repetitive aspect of the rosary is meant to lead us into meditation and contemplation. As we pray the Hail Mary repeatedly, it permits us to get lost in the prayer, and it permits the mystery to captivate our minds. A final reason might be that we don’t have enough time or are intimidated by such a prolonged period of silence. Compared to how we spend most of our day, the rosary only takes 15 to 20 minutes, and the value of each rosary prayed is eternal!

Why should I pray the rosary?

One of the ways to win why we might not pray the rosary and to give it a second chance is by understanding why we ought to pray it in the first place.

The words Mary spoke each month at Fatima are reason enough. She told the three shepherd children (Servant of God Lucia, St. Francisco, and St. Jacinta) to pray the rosary every day to obtain peace for the world. In the six Fatima apparitions, there was not a month that went by that Mary didn’t request the daily rosary. The Mother of God herself has asked us to pray it.

Dissatisfied with war and violence? Pray the rosary. Mary says it is the way to gain peace for our troubled world.

Secondly, it is the simplest way for us to reflect on the life of Jesus. St. Louis de Montfort asked his readers if they didn’t pray the rosary, would they open the Gospels and meditate on Christ’s life? The rosary allows us to get to know Jesus better by reflecting on his early years, his passion and resurrection, and with the addition of the luminous mysteries in 2002, the public ministry of Christ.

Thirdly, many holy people, saints, popes, and laypeople have suggested the rosary devotion but also saw it as a means for their own sanctity. Take it from Thomas Merton, who said, “I would never do without the rosary.” If the rosary has been a means of sanctity for the saints, then hopefully it will suffice for us.

Lastly, through the rosary, we ask Mary to pray for us now and at the hour of our death. As we ask her to pray for us at this moment, her maternal intercession can bring for us graces and assist us to advance in virtue. Understanding that she prays for us as we ask her to do so is a powerful reason to pray the rosary.

How can I give the rosary a second chance?

If it has been awhile since you prayed the rosary or your rosary devotion has become stagnant, here are a few recommendations to assist you to give the rosary a second chance.

Use an app. There’s an app for everything, and yes, there is one for praying the rosary. There are a lot of rosary and prayer apps available. I often use an audio version of the rosary either from the Laudate app or the Relevant Radio app. If I’ve been reciting the rosary on my own for a while, I sometimes switch things up by listening and praying the rosary. It gives me a change of pace, and sometimes the audio might include meditations.

Pray while in the car. If you commute to work or are taking your children to school, consider praying the rosary during the drive. If you are with a group, let someone else lead. If you are by yourself, try using an audio version.

Go for a rosary walk. I love summer and autumn because it means I can get out, walk, and pray the rosary. If you are like me, you are committing with ensuring that you get at least 10,000 steps a day. Walking and praying the rosary assists me to fulfill that goal.

There is a greater spirituality behind rosary walks. The rosary is Mary helping us reflect on the life of Christ. We could say that Mary walks with us as we reflect on the life of Jesus; she holds our hands and leads us through the mysteries of her son’s life. Mary also was a person who was constantly on the move — going from Nazareth to Ein Karem, from Ein Karem to Nazareth, from Nazareth to Bethlehem to Jerusalem to Egypt, and back to Nazareth. When we walk and pray the rosary, there is a sense of solidarity with Mary.

Pray with someone else. There is an efficacy when we join our voices and intentions with others. St. Louis de Montfort recommends in The Secret of the Rosary that when we pray the rosary by ourselves, we receive the graces for one rosary, but when we pray the rosary with others, we receive the graces of two rosaries or five rosaries and so forth.

Offer each decade for a specific intention. We can try to make the rosary more meaningful by focusing on its intercessory nature — our intercession for someone and Mary’s intercession for our petitions.

At end of The Secret of the Rosary, St. Louis de Montfort proposed a method of praying the rosary to curb distraction and contemplate the mystery being prayed. De Montfort suggested one phrase to insert in the Hail Mary after the name of Jesus for each decade. For instance, the first joyful mystery would be: thy womb Jesus, incarnate, Holy Mary, Mother of God; the second joyful mystery: thy womb Jesus, sanctifying. De Montfort recommended only one phrase.

Use a rosary devotional. Many Catholic authors have written rosary devotional books with the aim of assisting people to pray the rosary better. Most times these devotional books contain meditations to be read before each mystery, giving material for us to think about and ponder while praying that mystery. Visit any Catholic bookstore, and I’m clear you will find a plethora of options.

Participate in a 30-day challenge. People love to challenge themselves with particular goals. Just as we might have physical fitness goals, why not take up a spiritual goal of giving the rosary a second chance? Pray the rosary every day for one month and see if it makes a difference in your life. I’m willing to bet you will experience greater peace of mind and heart, and you might even notice your habits starting to change.
